North Shore Coaching College Charity Foundation – Burmese Refugees
Outside of being a leading provider of tuition to students in Australia and Hong Kong, we are delighted to share that our charity organisation – North Shore Coaching College Charity Foundation in memory of Mrs Demi Mak, continues to support charities in the education field and beyond. We recently supported the work of Jesuit Mission for the scholarship program at Xavier Jesuit School in Cambodia and Caritas Australia’s Sustaining Education Program for Burmese Refugees.
Xavier Jesuit School Cambodia is an education project supported by Jesuit Mission in partnership with Jesuit Service Cambodia in Sisophon, Banteay Meanchey Province. The school offers classes from kindergarten through to year 12, as well as a teacher resource centre and community learning centre.
This scholarship project provides support to 80 students (grades seven to ten) from remote communities and disadvantaged households to access hostel accommodation and other school costs to be able to continue their education.
Further information on the work of Jesuit Mission can be found here.
The Sustaining Education Program for Burmese Refugees Program operates in two camps in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand, as well as in re-settlement sites in Shadaw and Hpasawng townships in Myanmar’s Kayah State. The aim of this program is to consistently deliver quality education services supported by community building activities and cross-border initiatives for refugees and potential returnees, forcibly displaced by widespread ethnic conflict in Myanmar.
This program addresses a fundamental educational gap, as refugee children are not able to enrol in Thailand’s official education system due to cultural and linguistic differences, compounded by being physically restricted to the refugee camp.
By supporting whole communities and equipping people with skills and opportunities to live with dignity, peace and safety, we are glad that our donation can make a lasting impact.
