Year 1 Maths & General Ability (WA)

Core Program

Our Year 1 program provides your child with an advanced and comprehensive exploration of numeracy. Skills and competencies across all aspects of mathematics are thoroughly investigated. The program covers concepts at a slightly more advanced level than your child will encounter at school.

Course Goals
  • Develop advanced knowledge of number up to three digits
  • Develop numerical operations & basic understandings of fractions
  • Develop basic general ability (thinking skills) concepts
  • Develop concepts of area, time & measurement using formal and informal units
  • Develop concepts of graphing, money, chance and probability
  • Develop concepts of shape, position and temperature
Course Structure

  • 4 terms in a year, 10 weeks in a term
  • 1.5 hour lessons per week, during term
  • Students attend lessons at their allocated time schedule

Week 6 — Patterns, fractions, telling time, skip counting, adding & taking away

Week 8 — Term test, adding to 13, Number sequence, Fraction sets, reading tables
Week 9 — Telling time, adding to 14, number sequence, fraction sets, money-coins, problem solving

Term 2
Week 1 — Time-revision, Australian coins, problem solving, adding & taking away, money concept
Week 2 — Place value, Australian coins, descending order, concept of fraction, PS, adding
Week 3 — Position, digital time, reasoning, taking away within 20, adding
Week 4 — Reading a timetable, digital time, position, taking away within 20 revision, adding
Week 5 — Data-column graphs, ascending order, digital time, adding 3 addends, number words
Week 6 — Data – Picture Graphs, Digital time, adding & subtracting, PS
Week 7 — Number & Number words, digital time, addition & subtraction, PS
Week 8 — Term test, Money Matters, Measurement – centimetres, adding & subtracting, PS

Term 3
Week 1 — Addition drills 2-digit, sequencing, telling time-quarter past/to, PS, perimeter
Week 2 — Addition within 100, subtraction within 20, telling time revision, falling order within 150
Week 3 — Two-digit addition with regrouping, telling time, sequencing upto 200, PS
Week 4 — Two-digit addition/subtraction, number words, sequencing upto 200, PS
Week 5 — Two-digit addition/subtraction, multiplication (x3) with picture clues, PS
Week 6 — Slide & Turn, Two-digit addition/subtraction, multiplication (x4) with picture clues, P
